The Oxford Electives Conference is a one-day national event aimed at medical students who are either planning their electives, have recently undertaken a period of elective studies or have a general interest in global health. After its huge success last year, this conference is now in its third year and will consist of a series of stimulating lectures addressing a selection of topics from tropical diseases to surgery in the developing world. Small group sessions will equip students with additional skills and knowledge required while on elective, and which will also be invaluable as a junior doctor in the UK. Attendees are encouraged to present research posters on global health topics and submit elective-themed photographs for our two competitions, with a prize-giving ceremony at the end of the day. We hope this conference will inspire students to plan fantastic electives, help equip them to work in unfamiliar settings, and broaden their interest in global health.
