MRCS A Paper 1 (Applied Basic Sciences) Preparation Course

1st and 2nd August (Thursday and Friday) 2024

Live Online Teaching Held via Zoom

About

Basic sciences, such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, and microbiology, are the principal components that allow the development of a strong foundation in surgical training and an understanding of its clinically applied aspects, such as surgical anatomy and surgical pathology, critical care physiology and applied surgical sciences, and principles of surgery. As such, these subjects form an integral part of the MRCS Part A exam.

This intensive course will provide the attendee with an overview of basic physiological principles, consolidate the attendee's core and applied surgical knowledge in anatomy and relevant pathology, and give a focused revision of pertinent topics tested in the exam. The emphasis will be on key principles and concepts in the focused context of single best answer questions. The course will take into consideration the recent changes to the MRCS Part A exam, with more emphasis on the clinical application of basic sciences, especially anatomy.

In this course, the emphasis will primarily be on basic and surgically applied anatomy and related pathologies. This will include relevant embryology, surface anatomy and osteology in the areas of the head, face, neck, upper limb, spine, thorax, abdomen and the autonomic nervous system. Cancers pertinent to these regions will also be discussed.

Reviews

The topics covered in the course were vast and Professor Enoch had seemingly limitless knowledge on all topic areas covered by MRCS. Going through practice questions was a practical way to guide discussion and learning and the way that some questions were structured (with 4 'incorrect' answers being factual statements) was useful to have a record that we could make notes from later. I found the course incredibly helpful and a great refresher of knowledge long lost from 1st or 2nd year of medical school (10y ago!), and I feel much more confident about my upcoming exam.

This course greatly exceeded my expectations for how much I would gain. Professor Enoch is a fantastic teacher and highly knowledgeable. He answered every question I asked explaining it thoroughly and as participants we saw it as a challenge to see if we could ask a question and Professor Enoch wouldn't know the answer! His teaching is amazing and I would recommend this course to anyone planning to sit MRCS. I think for the price it's a bargain!
