Use of Radiology in General Surgical Emergencies:
An Essential Course for Surgical Trainees

24th November 2018

Postgraduate Centre, Hereford County Hospital, UK

About

This one-day interactive clinical case-based discussioncourse will discuss the optimal role of radiology in the diagnosis and treatment of common emergencies in general surgery. Radiology plays a crucial role in the diagnosis (and decision-making) of a variety of surgical emergencies. This includes acute abdominal emergencies, pelvic injuries, ruptured viscera, polytrauma and vascular conditions. Junior doctors, both in the A&E and in surgical wards, frequently have to deal with the initial aspects of managing surgical emergencies and acutely ill surgical patients. This course intends to equip the surgical trainees with the fundamental yet essential aspects of surgical radiology. It will discuss the role of different types of imaging (X-ray, CT, MRI, Angiograms, Single/Double-contrast investigations) with focus on its correct usage in surgical practice. This predominantly tutorial-based course is also suitable for those appearing for either part of the MRCS exam or NTN interviews.
