Hull York Medical School’s Joint Surgical Societies are pleased to announce the HYMS 7th National Undergraduate Surgical Conference. The event will comprise of a variety of workshops which touch upon a number of specialities, from Orthopaedics to Neurosurgery to Cardiothoracic Surgery.

This year, the conference will focus on the stresses faced by surgeons in the modern-day NHS. Keynote speakers such as Professor John Dark, Professor Averil Mansefield and Professor Ang Swee Chai will deliver engaging lectures on how to cope with and rise above the challenges of today’s NHS to become a better surgeon. This year will also see the introduction of new workshops in addition to the diverse range of workshops that were previously available.

The societies hope that the conference will be an enriching educational experience and an opportunity for delegates to network with one another and to learn from the best in the field.

Poster and Abstract Submission

Abstract and poster submissions of research related to any field of surgery are welcome. To submit your abstract and poster, please CLICK HERE.
Poster submissions must be received no later than 1200 hours on Saturday 18th January 2020.

Poster submissions must adhere to the following criteria:
  • Name
  • Email address
  • Medical school
  • Co-authors names
  • Title of research
  • Abstract (max. 300 words)
Abstract submissions must adhere to the following format:
  • Background
  • Hypothesis/Aims
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusion

Directions to the Venue


  • By Train: York Railway Station is accessible by train with regular trains from London within 2-3 hours. Destinations in the North and West are also very well connected to York, with services such as LNER, GWR and Northern Railways.
  • From York Railway Station: You can take the bus number 66 from across the station, which will take you straight into the University of York campus. A 10 minute walk into town will take you to Rougier Street, where bus 6 will take you straight to the University of York east campus.
  • By Car: York is very accessible by car, with major highways such as the A64 leading straight into York. Cities such as Leeds and Hull are approximately an hour’s drive away. It is less than a 2 hour drive from cities such as Manchester, Newcastle and Sheffield. Postcode: YO10 5GE
