Overview
This one day practical course is to provide delegates with an introduction to skills in microsurgery and its applications, including practical skills in basic microsurgical technique and arterial and venous anastomosis. Candidates will be formally assessed throughout the course with a competition and prizes in the final session.
Target Audience
Core Trainees, Foundation Doctors. Could also act as a refresher course for Specialist Trainees

Aims & Objectives
The aim of this course is to provide delegates with an introduction to skills in microsurgery and its applications, including practical skills in basic microsurgical technique and arterial and venous anastomosis. Candidates will be formally assessed throughout the course with a competition and prizes in the final session.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course delegates will be able to: • Perform basic microsurgical skills, including a thorough pre-operative microscope check, correct handling of microsurgical equipment, suturing and knot tying using correct microsurgical technique on supported latex sheets, then progressing onto unsupported latex strips. • Perform end-to-end arterial and venous anastomosis on a chicken leg artery and vein using correct microsurgical technique with attention to correct placement, spacing and coaptation of sutures.
