about

The Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) Paediatric Society is pleased to announce the 9th Annual National Student Paediatric Conference on the 29th February 2020 at the University of Brighton. This year’s theme is ‘Shaping the Future of Paediatrics: A Day Discussing Paediatric Career Pathways’.

Delegates can expect a day of talks, small-group discussions and case-based discussions run by leading experts in the field of Paediatrics.

The conference will provide delegates with a complimentary breakfast, lunch, tea and coffee throughout the day, as well as the opportunity to enter the BSMS poster competition.

The day will finish with a black-tie ball at Jury’s Inn Waterfront Hotel where delegates will receive a three-course meal. Guests will have the opportunity to enter a raffle to win prizes, with all proceeds of the raffle going to the Rockinghorse, Hadyn’s Wish and Whoopsadaisy charities.

The Annual National Paediatric Conference is one of BSMS’s most anticipated annual events, bringing together students and healthcare professionals from across the country.

Abstract Submission

All delegates are invited to submit a poster on a paediatric-related topic. This may include research in paediatric medicine or surgery, case studies, electives, novel research or SSC/SSMs. Submissions relating to general child health and obstetrics will also be accepted.

All posters are required to have an element of literature review. The primary author of each poster is required to attend the NSPC 2020, the annual poster competition of ‘Showcase Undergraduate Paediatric Research’. Other authors may be acknowledged with prior permission.

Posters must be A1 in size and include references in Vancouver or Harvard format. There are no restrictions on font size or design layout. Delegates must print their own posters and bring them to the conference themselves.

Abstract submissions are welcome. Abstracts may be submitted to b.stewart1@uni.bsms.ac.uk and must be received no later than 2359 hours on Saturday 22nd February 2020. Delegates must ensure that they have purchased their NSPC 2020 ticket before submitting an abstract. The topic of the poster cannot be changed once the deadline has been reached.

Abstract submissions should include the following:

  • Title of the poster
  • Author and contact email address
  • Medical school
  • An overview of the poster (max. 250 words)
Posters will be displayed throughout the day at the conference. A judging panel will review the posters and abstract submissions. Finalists will be selected to present their posters before the judging panel in the afternoon of the conference. Finalists will be issued with a certificate to acknowledge their achievement and the winner of the competition will receive a prize.
