14th March 2020 (Saturday)
University of Dundee Medical School, Ninewells Hospital, Dundee

Reporting Information

Dundee Emergency and Critical Care Society (DECCS) is proud to present CODE RED 2020: DECCS 3rd National Undergraduate Trauma Conference. The theme for this year's event is "Aviation and Air Retrieval" with a focus on major trauma. The conference is, therefore, aimed at anyone interested in acute medicine and critical care.

The morning session will comprise of a series of talks delivered by specialists who have first-hand experience in pre-hospital and trauma medicine. The talks will focus on major trauma, major incident management and aviation/air retrieval.

In the afternoon, attendees will participate in a Major Incident Simulation which will involve a realistic, stimulating scenario where delegates will be able to consolidate newly acquired skills. In previous years, DECCS has simulated crashed trains and fires on ships, however, this year will consist of a major aeroplane incident simulation. Attendees will be working in small groups supported by foundation doctors. Additionally, attendees will gain hands-on experience and will have the opportunity to practice demonstrated skills and procedures during practical workshops.

Aims and Objectives

  • To enable delegates to consolidate their current knowledge and understanding of trauma and critical care in a practical environment.
  • To encourage delegates to broaden their specialist knowledge of trauma and critical care through expert-led talks.
  • To provide delegates with the opportunity to advance their critical care skills under expert supervision via a realistic Major Incident Simulation.
