About

Swellings in the neck are common and important presentations in surgical practice. They could be the result of a range of conditions such as an enlarged lymph node, cutaneous lump, developmental cyst(thyroglossal, branchial or dermoid), thyroid swelling, pharyngeal pouch, carotid artery aneurysm, carotid body tumour or a cervical rib. All these conditions present with a unique set of features that require obtaining a careful history, performing a meticulous examination and carrying out a thorough evaluation before correct management can be initiated. A sound understanding of the anatomy of the neck and a pathophysiology of the presenting condition are also crucial in guiding the overall management of the patient. The lecture is delivered by Miss Daniela Bondin, who is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at the Tameside and Glossop Hospital in Greater Manchester and Surgical Lecturer and Tutor at Doctors Academy. She has vast experience of teaching at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
