Essential Clinical Skills for Aspiring Medical Students

This one-day course is aimed at GCSE students who are considering pursuing a career in Medicine. It will introduce students to a number of clinical skills with which medical students should be familiar, providing them with ample opportunity to gain hands-on experience, as well as appreciate the theoretical concepts behind such skills.

It is hoped that students will be able to discuss the skills practised and conceptualised in their applications to Medical School.

  • Surgical Gowning and Gloving
  • IV Cannulation and Blood Drawing
  • Management of Burns
  • Types of Surgical Instruments and Handling
  • Surgical Instruments
  • Types of Sutures
  • Suturing Practice
  • Debridement of a Contaminated Wound
  • Laparoscopic Skills
  • Principles of Diathermy
  • Taking a Pulse
  • Using a Stethoscope for Auscultation of a Heartbeat
  • Using a Doppler Machine to Detect Blood Flow
