About
This one-day course is aimed at A Level students who are considering pursuing a career in Medicine.
It will introduce students to a number of clinical skills with which medical students should be
familiar, providing them with ample opportunity to gain hands-on experience, as well as appreciate
the theoretical concepts behind such skills.
It is hoped that students will be able to discuss the skills practised and conceptualised in their
applications to Medical School.

- Scrubbing and Handwashing Technique
- Closed Method of Gowning and Gloving
- Correct Handling of Common Surgical Instruments and Disposing of Sharps
- Simple Suturing Technique
- Excision of a Simulated Cutaneous Lesion
- Draining an Abscess
- Debriding a Contaminated Wound
- Blood Drawing
- Basics of ABG Measurement and Interpretations
- Taking a Pulse
- Using a Stethoscope for Auscultation of a Heartbeat
- Basics of ECG Recording and ECG Interpretation
- Using a Doppler Machine to Detect Blood Flow
- Using a Tendon Hammer to Test for Reflexes
- Urine Analysis and Interpretations
- Basic Adult Life Support
- Basic Paediatric Life Support
