Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS)

3rd May 2019

Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr Tydfil

About

Developed in 2012 by Professor P. N. Haray, this course is aimed at junior doctors, medical students and staff nurses, who are all involved in a patient’s surgical journey. It intends to help improve the recovery of patients, which will lead to a reduction in the length of time a patient stays in hospital following surgery.

The course is divided into five topics which, when combined, target the same patient objective: to ensure that the recovery of each patient is as effective as possible. The areas include:

  • Pre- and Post-Operative Aspects of ERAS
  • Discharge Planning of ERAS
  • Minimal Invasive Surgery for Colorectal Cancer
  • Anaesthetic Consideration in ERAS
  • Patient Information DVD for ERAS
This unique course combines the knowledge and experience of professionals from a variety of backgrounds in order to advance the recovery of patients. It also aims to help nurses and theatre staff, as well as medical students, surgical trainees and specialty doctors, to develop essential skills.
