Aims and Objectives
- To facilitate the sharing of the latest advancements, research findings, and clinical practices in orthoplastics, enhancing the understanding of this multidisciplinary field.
- To provide participants with hands-on, practical learning opportunities that improve their technical skills in the application of orthoplastic principles in trauma and reconstructive surgeries.
- To create a platform for professionals from diverse backgrounds to collaborate, exchange ideas, and build lasting connections, fostering innovation and improving patient care.
- To discuss and disseminate the most current, evidence-based practices in orthoplastic surgery, ensuring high standards of patient care and surgical outcomes.
- To highlight the importance of collaboration between orthopaedic surgeons, plastic surgeons, rehabilitation experts, and other healthcare professionals in achieving optimal results for complex cases.

About
The KSS Orthoplastics Conference aims to inspire delegates to pursue careers in orthopaedics and plastic surgery.
Speakers at the event will share their experiences, discuss career pathways into orthopaedics and plastic surgery, offer guidance on CV building and networking, and explore emerging innovative techniques.
The event will include a number of hands-on workshops to enhance delegates' skills and build confidence in applying these techniques.
Additionally, the conference seeks to provide an environment for networking and mentorship, encouraging open dialogue between students, trainees, and established professionals.
Workshops
Trotter Tendon Repair
The workshop will focus on introducing delegates to the modified Kessler technique tendon repair. Delegates will learn key surgical approaches, including tension management and proper alignment to restore function.
Achilles Tendon Repair
The workshop will provide a hands-on session covering the anatomy, diagnosis, and surgical strategies for repairing ruptured or damaged Achilles tendons. The workshop emphasises optimal suturing techniques for this type of tendon repair.
External Fixation
The workshop will focus on external fixation techniques, offering practical insights into stabilizing fractures with external frames. This will include pin placement and adjustments for alignment.
Micro-Suturing
The workshop will enable delegates to refine micro-suturing skills, by conducting a nerve repair on a chicken thigh model. Techniques will include fine needle handling, knot tying, and tissue approximation under magnification.
Flap Reconstruction
The workshop will explore flap reconstruction procedures for tissue coverage, including both local and free flaps. Delegates will gain hands-on experience in planning, harvesting, and suturing advancement and rotational flaps.
Cyst Excision
The workshop will include demonstrations on safely excising cysts of various types. Techniques for minimizing scarring and ensuring complete excision using blunt dissection.
Advanced Suturing
The workshop will detail advanced suturing techniques, such as subcuticular, locking running stitch, and mattress stitches. Emphasis will be placed on tissue handling and achieving optimal wound closure

Abstract Submission
Abstracts are welcomed from attending delegates on all aspects of research related to medicine and healthcare. Submissions must not exceed 350 words and must include the following subheadings: Background, Methodology, Results, and Conclusion. Author names should not be included in the abstract.
The best three abstract submissions will be selected for oral presentations (7 minutes with 2 minutes for questions). The remainder of the accepted abstracts will be invited to present a poster.
A maximum of two delegates may present the submission, and presenters will be required to register to attend the conference.
Submissions must be in Harvard format and may be submitted via the following link. They must be received no later than midnight on 22nd May 2024.
