The annual national medical student prizes are open to all students studying medicine at a university in the United Kingdom. Both prizes will be judged by the trustees of Myelopathy.org. Winners and runners up will be presented with an official certificate for their portfolios in addition to the prizes detailed below.
The essay prize is awarded annually for the best essay in one of three titles.A student may only submit one essay each year. 
									
									Essays should not exceed 1500 words submitted as a word document.
									
									
									The titles for 2019 are:
									
									1. 	What does the future hold for neurosurgery and how will research help shape this?
									2.	How can quality of life of degenerative cervical myelopathy patients be improved?
									3.	Discuss how synthetic biology might influence the future of neurosurgery.
									
									
									
													The winner will receive a copy of the Eureka Neurology and Neurosurgery textbook,  A Doctor’s Guide to Critical Appraisal textbook and a copy of Pastest Data Interpretation for Medical Students which will be issued directly from the society,
									
									In addition they will be awarded access  to Doctor’s Academy Doctor Exams revision bank or a Doctor’s Academy e-book of their choice.
									
								
									The runner up will receive a 3-month subscription to Pastest Medical Finals.

													Mr Adel Helmy, Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon and University Lecturer
													
														Mr Helmy’s main research interest is traumatic brain injury (TBI), with a focus on the innate inflammatory response following TBI and multi-modality monitoring as a means of refining and personalising treatments for patients. Mr Helmey will discuss the impacts of brain injury and Neuroinflammation.
